Balcony cabins are what everyone wants these days, and Carnival is building its newest ships with far more of them than in the past. As noted above, about 44% of the cabins Carnival Panorama are balcony cabins. But that percentage jumped to 56% on the newer Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. It will be the same on Carnival Jubilee, a sister vessel to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration coming out in December 2023. On newer Carnival ships, a significant portion of cabins are balcony cabins — the rooms everyone wants these days.
Major Differences Between Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line
For me, if you’ve got the money then definitely look at the Family Harbor, Cloud 9 or Havana Interiors. The Family Harbor is one of the best Carnival cruise rooms – a great budget choice when cruising with kids, and the extra activities help to keep them entertained during quieter moments. The number one reason that people choose to book an Interior cabin on a cruise is to save money. And for that reason, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a ‘bad’ Interior cabin on a Carnival cruise. Porthole cabins are available on almost all Carnival ships – the exceptions are Spirit Class ships (Carnival Spirit, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Legend and Carnival Pride) and the newer Excel Class. Deluxe Ocean View staterooms sleep up to five and come with an extra half-bath.

Seven of the line's 25 vessels measure less than 100,000 tons, which makes them almost midsize by today's cruise ship standards. While we expect interior cabins to be small, we were still a little surprised at how little room there was. Other interior cabins we’ve sailed in have a small sitting area with a couch. On Carnival cruises, a Premium Interior (code 4N or 4O) is essentially just a larger version of an Interior room. They’re about the same size as a Balcony cabin, but without the Balcony attached. They’re only available on Mardi Gras, and give you extra floor space compared to a regular Interior. An Interior Upper/Lower stateroom (category 1A) is one of the smallest rooms you can book at sea that isn’t a single cabin.

I'm a gin and lavender fan, and our bartender, Tatiana, created an amazing cocktail with gin, lavender, St. Germain, elderflower and lime juice. Open for lunch and dinner, the Bonsai Sushi outpost on Sunshine is smaller than those on newer ships. With reasonably priced items like $5 and $7 rolls, and $2 for soup or salad, it's easy to curb your sushi craving on the cheap. This doesn’t look out over the ocean though, it overlooks a walkway, but if you want some natural light in your room then be sure to look out for these on the deckplans. If you aren’t too bothered about having a view but would like a little more room to move than in a smaller Interior, then a Premium Interior is a good middle ground. You’ll still save money compared to a Balcony but you’ll feel less cramped. Carnival Cruise Line doesn’t offer single rooms for solo travellers, but the Upper/Lower room is the nearest you’ll get.

The ship has something for every type of traveler, including three kids clubs, adult-only spaces, and over a dozen different dining options.
The desk area had only two U.S.-style 110V plugs and a European-style 220V plug. If you need more outlets, plan to pack a power strip (just not one with a surge protector, as they're banned on ships). In general, the production shows aren't nearly as sophisticated — or as long — as what you'll find on Royal Caribbean or Norwegian ships. Every Carnival ship has one big theater where you'll often find flashy, fast-paced production shows that string together a medley of loosely related tunes.
Last October, I joined a group of friends for a three-night sailing on Carnival Radiance out of Long Beach, California, and our itinerary included one sea day and a full day in Ensenada, Mexico. Our inside cabin on Carnival Celebration, nestled on Deck 4, was considered a standard inside stateroom with 160 square feet of space. Had we booked a premium inside cabin, the stateroom would have had an additional 40 square feet, allowing room for a small couch. Carnival has been rolling out faster Wi-Fi systems across its fleet in the last couple of years, such that you can now stream video on some ships. Pricing changes over time, but the fastest "premium" service on Carnival vessels was recently priced at $21.25 per day when bought in advance ($25 per day when bought onboard). It's a fun-at-sea focus that has gone to new levels over the past two years with the debut of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, each of which has — get this — a roller coaster on the top deck.
